Calexico, Imperial County
The names tell the story: Calexico blends California and Mexico, and its neighbor across the fence, Mexicali, reverses the mix. Calexico began around 1900 as a tent camp for the company digging canals into the Imperial Valley and incorporated in 1908. Tens of thousands of people cross between the two cities every day to work, shop and visit family.
